KATHMANDU: Fifteen new services in total are to be added in eight federal hospitals. Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, today unveiled a programme aiming to expand services of eight federal health facilities in the country.

According to Ministry Spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki, the Bir Hospital will expand its ICU capacities while the Bharatpur Hospital will launch a Cath Lab, or Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

The Bhaktapur Cancer hospital will launching the PICU and Pediatric Ward very soon while the Bheri Hospital is scheduled to launch the kidney transplant service by the second week of Baisakh (Last week of April this year).

The Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences is to add 20 beds in its emergency wards and the Narayan Hospital, Birgunj is set to start the Cath Lab by the end of Baisakh (mid-May) this year. The GP Koirala National Centre for Respiratory Disease, Tanahu will be launching the Hemodialysis Service from the third week of Baisakh (the first week of May).

The Dhangadhi-based Geta Hospital will be simultaneously launching a modular operation theater service, a facility for emergency services and the oxygen plant from the third week of Baisakh (the first week of May). The Ministry has pursued a policy of expanding the services of government facilities, he said.
