KATHMANDU: A man has been found to have hacked and transferred more than ten million rupees by unauthorizedly accessing the accounts of more than 4,000 e-sewa account holders.
Police have arrested 22-year-old Rahul Budha of Krishnapur Municipality-1, Kanchanpur, currently living in Kathmandu, on charges of stealing money from e-sewa accounts by sending phishing links. He had sent phishing links to various people via SMS warning them that their accounts were about to be suspended and asked them to open the link for verification, thereby defrauding them by gaining unauthorized access to e-sewa accounts.
He was found to have transferred the balance of more than 4,000 people’s e-sewa accounts, amounting to Rs 10.2 million, to the accounts of Pashupati Global Innovation Pvt. Ltd., shared Superintendent of Police Angur GC, spokesperson of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office.
The office made public the details of the incident today after arresting Budha from Kalimati, Kathmandu. Further investigation is underway while legal action has been initiated against the accused.
