KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called a meeting of the high-level political mechanism for Wednesday.

This move comes after a discussion between PM Oli, who leads the CPN-UML, and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.

The meeting is expected to take place at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, either in the afternoon or evening. Political leaders have hinted that both Oli and Deuba will be present.

A member of the mechanism shared that the meeting could initially involve just the mechanism members, with top party leaders joining later—or all participants might join from the beginning.

The agenda includes reviewing recent political developments, evaluating the government’s direction, and discussing key appointments.

Earlier in the day, the Council of Ministers also met at Baluwatar.

In response to growing criticism from senior Congress figures like General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, as well as Shekhar Koirala and SP Saud, over the government’s slow performance, Oli has initiated a series of political consultations.

The high-level political mechanism includes UML leaders such as Senior Vice-Chair Ishwar Pokhrel, Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel, and the PM’s Chief Political Advisor Bishnu Rimal. On the Congress side, Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, Gagan Thapa, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana are members.
