KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepali Congress has scheduled a meeting of its central executive committee to formulate an official stance on the increasing activities of monarchist groups pushing for the restoration of former King Gyanendra Shah.
At a gathering of party officials at NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha, it was decided to convene the central executive committee meeting on March 23 to assess the growing momentum of the monarchist movement.
Nepali Congress spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat confirmed the decision, stating, “The executive committee meeting will take place on March 23 to evaluate the situation and make the necessary decisions.”
Mahat also highlighted that the party leadership had a brief discussion on the recent monarchist activities.
“We have already established a constitution created by the people and endorsed by nearly 90% of elected representatives. The government operates under this constitution, and we are committed to protecting these achievements,” he said.
The upcoming meeting will focus on how the party should address the rising monarchist movement.
