KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Friday held a meeting with office-bearers of the Confederation of Nepalese Teachers (CNT) to explore solutions to the ongoing teachers’ agitation centered in Kathmandu.

Teachers from across the country have gathered in the federal capital for their agitation since April 2, putting forth various demands including a prompt endorsement of the School Education Bill, 2081 BS.

It may be noted that on April 7, the Prime Minister had directed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Bidya Bhattarai, to seek ways for addressing genuine concerns of teachers through a dialogue.

The cabinet meeting held on April 15 had decided to make necessary coordination from the government side to pass the School Education Bill at the earliest by calling the session of the Federal Parliament and summon the Federal Parliament Session on April 25.

The meeting also requested the agitating teachers to withdraw their agitation keeping the SEE answer-sheet checking and upcoming examination of grade 12 in mind as the government was serious in order to address genuine demands.

President of the Federation, Laxmi Kishor Subedi, Co-Chair Nanumaya Parajuli, General-Secretary Tula Bahadur Thapa and Deputy-General-Secretary Madan Raj Joshi were present in the meeting held at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar.
