KATHMANDU: A habeas corpus petition has been filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of Rabi Lamichhane, who is currently in judicial custody on charges of cooperative fraud.
The petition, seeking his release, was filed on Sunday, and a hearing has been scheduled for Monday, according to the Supreme Court administration. Earlier, Lamichhane had filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court’s decision that sent him to detention.
The Supreme Court has already retrieved documents from both the High Court and District Court in relation to the case. The petition requests the Supreme Court to annul the High Court’s order and keep Lamichhane out of custody. Since it appears the decision may take time, Lamichhane has also filed a habeas corpus petition to address his detention.
