RSP president Lamichhane sent to jail

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) President Rabi Lamichhane has been sent to jail. The Rupandehi District Court sent him to Bhairahawa Jail on Monday.

Lamichhane, who was arrested from his residence in Kathmandu on Friday night, was taken to Gautam Buddha Airport at 9:12 am on April 5 (Chaitra 23) by a Yeti Airlines flight and taken into custody at the District Police Office.

Lamichhane, who spent two days in custody due to government leave, was taken to the Rupandehi District Court today and brought to the jail on a detention warrant, said DSP Suraj Karki, Information Officer of the Rupandehi District Police Office. He will remain in the same jail until the court’s verdict.

Last Friday, the Tulsipur Butwal bench of the High Court ordered President Lamichhane to be remanded in custody for trial in the Supreme Cooperative Fraud and Organized Crime cases.

He was produced before the District Court on Monday morning as Saturday and Sunday were public holidays.
